It’s mind boggling how the producer of Narcos (which is awesome) made a hijack boring and wasted Brühl and Pike’s acting talent. The use of the dance and the Hebrew song as a framing device is just so annoying and really detracts from the film.

(Hybrid review of both seasons) If this show just focused on the U Boat story then I would give this 5 out of 5 but it is diluted with this boring resistance story and New York story (season 2). For something called Das Boot it takes place a lot on dry land. The reason why the original mini series/ movie is so iconic and impactful is because it solely focused on the U-Boat and it’s crew. We see the monotony of daily life and how it impacts them and also the horror when the actions starts. The U-Boat segments in S1 and S2 are great and every time we switch back it makes you want to go crazy. If this series was called something other than Das Boot then I would excuse it as a decent WW2 show but as it stands it’s a tedious show. I recommend it only for the U-Boat scenes and nothing more.
