I couldn't get through enough of the book in 1980--less than 20 pages--to produce a fulsome review but through my pounding head and heart I credit that this little known novel created, out of scraps of history, my respect and acknowledgement of the Native experience and my continued support of the cause of the Tribal People and their land. It woke me to the hard lessons not of the glories of the building of the United States but to the horrors of it. At 76 years old I push forward, nonetheless, trying for a "more perfect union" (world).
