Frustrating! Like many others, the Philip Pullman books were a revelation to me. The movie The Golden Compass was nothing like the feeling I got from the books. There is so much to love about this series but it’s not as good as it should be. The art direction is gorgeous, Ruth Wilson, as always, is brilliant. But there’s something missing. And I hate to single him out but Lin Manuel Miranda just doesn’t fit his performance to the other actors or the series. Very sadly: B.
