I'm a big fan of the Civ series so was sceptical but loved alot of Humankind. There are some great additions (neolithic era is fab), cultural routes are fun, fighting is a bit more interesting. However, there are some serious flaws. Diplomacy is basic, I can't even work out who I'm at war with half the time as indicators/map aren't clear, move times of units are slow (you cant appear to speed them up), sea combat is garbage, but most annoyingly the game freezes on a turn in both games I have played (about turn 240) with no solution. I think it will be a great game if the next patch/update can fix some of the basics. May not be worth forking out the money just yet.
