In short: pleasently Unique.
An overall fine animated film, the visuals are beautiful, the story is...rather unique for a telling of Noah's Ark, which is both its strength and its downfall. Rather than focus on animals we are familiar with the story follows two fantasy creatures (different species) that don't make it to the ark. A rather interesting take.
However, the main character's species has many special features that are brought up only when its convenient and the story has backed itself into a wall. What? it's Dark? Oh what do you know, he glows now! He's trapped underwater? Suprise, he can breathe underwater!
And finally, the creators forgot the reason animals were going on the ark 2 by 2.
To Breed.
Instead, its about single parents bring their children on the ark, and no, the single parents (a father and a mother) do not fall in love.
No wonder their kinds went extinct.
But again, its unique. I was expecting an unlikely romance. instead, I got a story of 2 children and their parents surviving the flood.
But I will say the writing and character dynamics is great. I honestly enjoyed the film, had a few laughs.
In short, a unique film.
