I would rather watch all of Disney's sequels than watch this again.
The reason the classic Mulan got so much admiration and attention because it had good plot building, steadily made relationships, while tackling the issues of misogyny and gender roles with catchy tunes and loveable characters.
Well the brand-new movie just threw it out the window, they take out mushu and throw in a witch? Also, Mulan's "Qi" makes no sense, the point is to show that a girl can do as much as a man can without this nonsensical Qi stuff, the relationships are stiff and forced, the acting is stiff, then the love interest plot was god awful, it carried on for a millisecond and was dropped, only to be picked up again because, well, who knows why? This movie is an utter waste of time and downright disrespectful to the issues the original Mulan was trying to portray. Mulan went from knowing nothing, to gradually learning discipline and self-control, and she failed at some points, this Mulan felt so forced and unrealistic, nearest thing to a Mary Sue. It's really disappointing considering how much budget and time Disney put into this, really? I know they can do better than this.
