What a sad state the movie industry is in when people give garbage, jump scare packed clones like the conjuring series good reviews and movies like this fly under the radar. Saint Maud is another masterpiece, which like Midsommar or Hereditary doesn't necessarily scare you with paranormal events but rather features one or more characters that possess an unnerving aura and focuses on that. Maud is a complex, but deranged lunatic who actively made me worry about everyone who happened to share a room with her at the time. How anyone mistook a shy, pious girl for the monster she was makes me feel less bad about what ended up happening to them. Granted, most people didn't hear the internal monologue and if they did, they'd have likely locked her up; something I actually expected halfway through the movie. The ending gives you almost the same feeling you get after watching Midsommar and if you liked that movie and how it ended, you'll LOVE Saint Maud.

A very tense, but confusing movie. The plot made little sense and none of the actions did either. The characters were unlikable and forgettable. I was promised violence, but honestly got very little. Waste of time.

I liked it. I'm unsure why it has any hate to be honest. The plot was complex, but it still was a good movie and fits alongside the 2006 prequels well enough. The new L (Sosuke) was a good L. He fit the odd characteristics of his predecessor without copying him too much. There were a few things that I didn't understand by the end, such as the whole thing with the DNA, why Ryuk helped Mishima escape, why the Shinigami wanted a new Kira. The ending suggested a sequel, which I wouldn't be against. This was definitely better than Netflix's adaptation. It didn't butcher Misa at all and stuck to her character. I actually like this trilogy's Misa better than the Anime's. I don't know why Light would have had a child though, and how? That part was stupid and seemed thrown in to have Mishima become the new Kira. They didn't explore the characters and just stated that they 'went insane'. The thing about getting all the Death Notes in one place also didn't get resolved. Why was that such a goal? This movie made me dislike Ryuk and like Misa which is actually pretty funny. 4/5. See it, but be prepared to be confused.

I liked it. Short and scary. Realistic reactions from people in a chaotic situation. I'd have liked to see more of the lore as the ending was kind of confusing.

Loved it! Ari Aster has quickly become my favorite filmmaker. When I need to pause a movie so many times and look away because it's giving me anxiety, I know its a keeper. No movies like Ari's movies have struck such a cord with me. Midsommar was an amazing ride and I'm happy that Dani got her happy ending. Rid herself of a vile bf and has a new family. All the music was very well placed and the emotions felt were REAL. The deaths were also unique in their own ways. All around great rec for anyone, well, anyone who can handle weird. If you like Hereditary, you'll love Midsommar.
