the child actors were so great, the whole vibe of the movie was awesomely portrayed, but I felt like the director kinda ruined the movie. the second half especially. both the story and the way it was told and projected on screen got weaker towards half way thru the film. I do like the characterization and I was looking forward for the "storytelling" after all the hype in the trailer, but honestly it didn't stand out. the story and the concept is amazing but it could have been developed way better. The thing that really stood out in the movie is the camera work and the framing!

A24's got some great art-house movies. this is definitely not the one. I'm glad I watched this movie cuz now I could clearly see when does an art-house movie can actually suck the good part first: Cinematography! One of the most beautiful imagery, and literally every frame is like a painting. Can't stress this enough. what sucked: the storyline/script is so weak and many visuals and scenes are completely unrelated to what's going on in the actual plot. I hate that directors tend to do this. there's no real cursor or context to many of the scenes (pls spare me the "its left for the audience's imagination") and it just seems like it was shot for the sake of portraying something. You can take symbolism only so far but not to the point when there's literally no story telling but just random ideas concocted together.

Yet another movie that has some beautiful visuals and Cinematography but not a single on of them seems to actually fit in the script. Sad to see what happens when some horrible direction, screenplay and storyline is paired with an amazing concept, cast and cinematography they've had at hand. Some scenes that are symbolic are so beautifully shot but there's minimal to no continuation of the concept that they're trying to convey, and failed badly at integrating it with the rest of the storyline.
