I can't agree with the author's way of justifying her behaviour and decision on Ryle. Its very evident that he is different from her father. Her father never apologized to her mom and he would have never come behind her mom to get her back in his life if she walked out. No way i could agree the act of comparing her father with Ryle. Ryle was genuine and transparent at any moment between them whereas she never gave him the naked truth when he asked for it. And also he loved her so much that he always admitted his mistake and never blamed her for why the problem had started between them because relationship valued more to him than the mistakes. When everything went out of control , i cannot justify her behaviour of calling Atlas for emergency and staying in his house afterall her husband doesnt want only that from her. In my view she is just a mess who has no intelligence to keep her life peaceful. Once we cross some emotions in life, nothing we could do by looking back at it and giving life to such emotions in the present no matter what. Totally unfair behaviour of character Lily and i see adamant, aggressiveness and egostic nature in her. In my view its not him who was mentally affected by his childhood trauma , its she who was affected by her father's behaviour and not able to differentiate his behaviour from loved ones.
