There is so much wrong with this Rom-com, but is made watchable because of these two actors - Issa Rae, more so than Nanjiani, but I appreciated them both. I have a feeling that many a die-hard Issa Rae fan will be a little disappointed; but I am sure she'll survive it, while gaining new fans. I was entertained, they've got some funny lines, and if you lower your expectations, the absurdity of the situations is high-larious!

Great performances. Great direction. Great art direction and costumes. Great story looking at a pivotal moment in a person’s dramatic transformation; a triumph of the will to speak her being in the world. A little series with huge heart.

2 1/2 stars. Unlikable, self-absorbed characters, involved in avoidable, self-destructive behavior. Challenging premises that, even once taken at face value, the story shows to be incapable of following through and providing much depth to their assertions. Some pretty atrocious writing, if you ask me. Over-reliance on a pretty actors and sex to keep you watching (it wanes). Some very good photography and locations, as well as some really nice sets - the biggest things that kept me going until, the story became too cringe-worthy for me. I kept having to fast forward, but was engaged just enough, that I kind of wanted to know 'whodunit', and I really wanted see more of the island and the scenography. I would add, seeing the positive reviews, that it's a stylish tele-novella in english, with some good production values; obviously, that's good enough for some.
