Overall, a great book for an introduction to the information a person AFAB should know. But, I would not recommend this book as it completely failed in the endometriosis section. Endometriosis is NOT when the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside of the uterus. It is actually tissue SIMILAR to the endometrium growing outside of the uterus. Multiple studies are stating that it is histologically and pathologically different. This is extremely important to get right as it completely changes the level of healthcare you can access. When someone with endometriosis understands its definition properly, they can find health care professionals who actually understand the disease in order to find safe access to excision (gold standard surgical removal) of endometriosis and proper long-term treatment and management of the disease. It was mentioned in the book loosely that a hysterectomy is a suitable treatment for endometriosis.... this is not at all right; if endometriosis grows OUTSIDE of the uterus, removing the uterus does not do anything other than putting someone under unnecessary surgical risk. A hysterectomy only helps with adenomyosis, as this disease is actually located within the uterus. There is too much misinformation floating around about endometriosis, and it is NOT ok; people lose organs over this, it renders people infertile and is so debilitating for some that it lowers their quality of life. If we want proper, safe and high-quality health care for people AFAB, inclusion involves all minorities to be represented properly.
