“Encanto” feels lazy, don’t get why is so highly rated. I’m actually upset the first South American movie they make (and no I don’t count “Up” because they mention a quick reference of the best couple in Disney to one day live in South America, nothing really about the culture) and it’s finished in a rush without the intentionality they usually give the culture of the characters. I feel they did an excellent job in research with “Coco” and/or “Moana”. I’m not saying Disney always get cultural facts 100% right, but you feel the work they put into the research. Or go all out and create a new fantastical world with a few South American references like you did in “The Incredibles”, “Up” or “Ratatouille”. It was neither, it was confusing.
-the story wasn’t clear enough
-the villain wasn’t developed throughly, if there was a villain (still unclear)
- the story was rushed
- most of the characters are just there for fluff they don’t have a purpose, just to have rhymes in the songs.
-they didn’t take the time they usually take in every movie to have a clear background, a good development in the middle and strong finish.
- I’m giving one star cause animation it’s obviously spectacular, and cause Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the songs
Sorry Disney, I just didn’t get it.
