The Wheel of Time is my favorite book series and I have been following the show and making of the show closely. It's really a great show so far. Acting, Costumes and Cinematography are excellent! Pacing can feel rushed at times (esp. episode #1) but that's b/c Amazon only allowed for 8 one hour episodes against showrunner's wishes.
Book fans will miss some things that were edited out or changed for the adaptation, but I think the show got the casting and look of the magic right... along with the spirit of the books. I think non-readers will enjoy story and will still get similar feelings watching show that book readers got when they originally read.
First couple of books are more of the feel of a quest in Lord of the Rings vein and later in series things turn more political/power struggle, in vein of Game of Thrones. The series I think is trying to bring in more political intrigue sooner than books which is a great decision IMO. I also appreciate I can watch this with my teenagers and they are not adding in demeaning abuse, rape and nudity like GOT did to women. The women are for the most part are presented as strong, to be respected and feared. It's also total BS that the men are being emasculated as some accuse. Just because women are presented as persons of strength does not mean the men are devalued and not able to be strong.
To book fans who can't stand changes...you don't have to watch. Please let non book fans decide for themselves if they like show...don't let your bias ruin someone else's experience. If non book readers grow to love the WOT story and characters many will decide to read the books and then they can decide for themselves what they prefer.
As a reminder, many Lord of the Rings Book fans were up in arms over the omission of Tom Bombadil and how Peter Jackson "emasculated" Aragorn's character from the books ( went from very masculine and kingly to sensitive, not sure if he should be king/ fearful of his' destiny). And those movies turned out great. In fact many now consider LOTR to be the best adaptation of a fantasy series to date.
Bottom Line I hope people will give it a watch and time to let show find it's groove.
