The actual message isn’t bad but doesn’t belong in this kind of movie. The commentary could have fit in an entire movie about the chimp and it would have been at home. My personal gripes are the following: Pacing is constantly broke, Jupiter tries to tame a beast that resembles his past and he can’t see the futility, the shoe didn’t have to be in the movie, no character development, never felt afraid for the cast, the kids were the scary part, the fact it’s marketed as an alien film but is a monster movie, antagonist has incredible power but doesn’t rip open homes to eat or trick its prey, and the beast looks cheap and not like a functional life form of any kind. The antagonist could have been a more realistic jellyfish or a space ameba or even an ameba that camouflages itself as a cloud. BIG PROBLEM with the creature over all, humans made the idea of a UFO and it’s shape, why would it take that form being from another planet? It’s problematic. It’s more of a demon than a creature.
