For those entrenched in the mythos of Star Wars, fan service is appreciated and expected, but the Rise of Skywalker is the first example of too much of this particular good thing. Big moments are rarely earned in this movie, and the pace is at such break neck speed it’s hard to savor anything on screen longer than the minute it was presented. Star Wars fandom was said to be impossible to please (until the mandalorian), but this movie is a touchstone of an incredibly sloppy attempt to the try, and try too hard.
