Ok I don't like reviewing games but I feel I NEEDED to review this one. Mostly because I felt tricked.
If you like Pokemon breeding, this game is not for you.
If you like GTS, this game is not for you.
If you like being able to use your Pokemon in this game in any other existing Pokemon game, like with a Pokemon bank, this one is not for you.
If you like online Pokemon tournaments and battles with random players, this game is not for you.
If you like options and items for Pokemon and lots of moves and super training and pretty much every cool thing that has happened to pokemon since pokemon red and blue, this game is not for you.
That being said if you liked Pokemon red and blue, this game is also not for you.
If you like Pokemon go and liked Pokemon red and blue so equally you wanted them to have a baby together, because that would be a better idea than a solid Pokemon game with all the bells and whistles, this one is for you.
It is kind of still Pokemon but reversed into a straight remake that isn't really a remake.
It IS playable. "Playable". Just not what I wanted or expected.
I will say the find and catch mechanics are refreshing, there is a cool candy system for trading in your duplicates for stats, and I really liked they knocked the Pokemon back to the original 150 for this game.
I was just REALLY disappointed this game is such an orphan from the actual Pokemon games to where it has nothing to do with them and never will.
ALSO I feel the need to add that this game is ridiculously stupid easy. I have the lets go eevee version and there is a trainer that teaches her a fire, water, and thunder move like 10 minutes in the game. One really speedy Pokemon that has a super effective answer for everything.
Especially bad because unless you have a buddy or someone that you know that also plays this game there really is no challenge to the game. There is no random online battles or competitors.
Unless you are trying to catch them all, which is also easier than in any other game.
To make a fair comparison,
I spent 600 hours plus on pokemon x and y, grinding, breeding, finding items, figuring out pokemon combinations, petting, researching the game, playing with, trading for pokemon with the specific traits and values, and super training my pokemon. It was so addicting and good that I actually almost felt an emotional connection to my pokemon. I strived to have the perfect combination of 3 pokemon out of the HUNDREDS of pokemon I could choose from. It came to the point where I had a giant video game gasm and had to put pokemon down for a bit because my pokemon fix was SATISFIED and then some. Like I went to an all you can pokemon buffet and gorged myself until my stomach exploded.
I wanted to be better than the millions of other pokemasters around the globe. I NEEDED to be the best. Winning even one battle against random players around the world was SO rewarding, as I knew these people were going through the same experiences and the same things that I had been doing playing the game.
Pokemon let's go evee was more like one of those really good appetizers that is delicious but would never stack up to the main course. It was AMAZING....... for about a couple hours.
A generous 10.
Learning the new candy/ catch system, the look, revisiting my first pokemon game was really fun until I got past my first three gyms.
Then I found out how easy it was and how challenging it wasn't going to get, and the things I were waiting for weren't there. Pokemon foreplay done right but my poke balls were left blue.
