This is a compilation of three stories. It is sold as if they were a continuous story, but really; only the protagonist and some side characters remain consistent.
This is a real disappointment because the first book had some really good elements and story devices, especially the magic system. There was a hint that something bigger was going on, and there was intrigue.
Unfortunately, that was only in book one, as book two brings about a new magic system (that wasn't as interesting), a new narrative and new plots. Same characters and locale.
And then book three did another story, same characters and locale. It doesn't seem like there will be a fourth book, which is unfortunate, because it could have tied up the stories on WHY they are all different.
