No character growth, Mulan was presented as a "special" character from childhood, instead of an ordinary girl who was given an difficult choice, to save her father who would have died in the war. Through hard work, determination, and creativity she became one of the most skilled and gifted soldier, and ultimately saves China and overcame the women stereotype the government place in favor of men. The message is that anyone can achieve/overcome most adversity by not giving up.
Also Mulan's character showed no emotions, a tear here and blank stare there. Nothing to drive what was happening. They had to examine the events that was happening in the movie, instead of the audience figuring it out themselves.
