Contrived and manipulative pap. We see members of a mob beating civilians to death and methodically gunning them down, then are force-fed an argument that this is really no different from the main character (Owen Wilson) trying to protect his kids because the mob members were incited by fear of losing their economic autonomy. Sorry, protecting your kids from being slaughtered and slaughtering kids is different, regardless of your motivation. This explanation is a weak attempt to try to humanize the blood-thirsty mob whose members chortle with glee when holding a gun to the head of the Wilson character's daughter and demanding she shoot her father, but every other scene only serves to further demonize these caricatures of brutality. There are lots of other weaknesses -- the plot is a series of how-screwed-can-this-family-be scenes strung together, Pierce Brosnan is thrown in as a sacrifical lamb (apparently, it's okay for him to die bcause he has no kids) who shows up in the most improbable places, and Wilson and his screen wife predictably reveal their mettle and loyalty under fire.
