I won't get into the weeds, just keep it simple. I watched this the other night, and watched twisters last night. Of the two, Jackpot was absolutely worth the time. I had my reservations, but it was actually pretty funny, albeit a ridiculous premise. If you like comedy and don't mind bad words and some violence, you won't be disappointed.

If you're a fan of Bert or Tom and their podcast/stand-up, you should enjoy it. I wanted to love this movie so much, maybe I just had too high of expectations given how well written Bert's stand-up usually is. The plot itself was decent enough to at least stick, but the dialogue was weak and the jokes were few and far between. Tonaly, the movie shifted from upbeat and waiting for the funny shoe to drop, to legit serious drama. The equivalent of a kid learning to drive a stickshift. I kept feeling like my girlfriend was edging me only for someone to knock on the door. As a fan, it's definitely worth a watch, but I'm kinda surprised we didn't just see it drop on Netflix.

I loved the primitive depiction of the predator vs relatively primitive human predators. The scenery and score were on point. The only negative was the predators camouflage, at times is didn't look the best. I don't want to give anything else away, this entry is easily top 3 of the franchise!

This movie was a childhood favorite, and has aged like a cask of fermented milk. This classic is sure to bring the whole family together! Raul Julia was born for the role of Gomez! Christina Ricci really showed her knack for acting at such a young age. I could go on at length but I digress.

I haven't watched a film this fun in quite some time. All of the characters are portrayed amazingly, some could have used a bit more backstory, but that's the brilliance; you can assign them whatever you'd like and it would only add to the fun. Colin Farrell stands out, as well as charlie H. Both supporting actors knocked it out. Matthew M sends it home. I would love to see a sequel bringing back the majority of the cast! I dont want to spoil it, it's a must watch!!!

Apart from the intro into this swedish world, which was clever yet nauseating, there really isnt anything spectacular about the visuals. Overall, if the point to make is regarding differences in culture and how people view death, I guess it achieved its goal. I cant believe the rave reviews! I wasted over 120 minutes that could have been spent slamming the refrigerator door on my genitals. All kidding aside, this seemed to be a decent representation of ancient rituals continued into the modern day, which from our civilized perspective, would appear to be horrifying. Dont expect much else in terms of actual plot!

The visuals are breathtaking and you will be on the edge of your seat! Be prepared for an anxiety fueled thrill ride. I thought the chemistry worked well, and I was digging the fearless heroin, until I realized that not only was there never a REAL Amelia Wren, but James went up with another man in real life. This man by the name of Henry Coxwell gets completely left by the way side. I wouldn't have minded the gender reversal, had they at least made her name Henrietta or some variation. It's a disservice to the real men who braved this unknown frontier in the name of science!

I had my reservations going in. I was pleasantly surprised with this. It's not too over the top with the ra ra girl power, while remaining plausible. Even with the overabundance of womens empowerment in Hollywood (I'm not a misogynist just pointing out the obvious), it was refreshing to see a mob movie from this perspective. Eventually this will probably go down with other great mob movies. It's not going to be in the top 3, but it makes a good show.

As ridiculous as some of the situations were, this movie absolutely hits you right in the nostalgia. From thinking you know everything, to learning you really dont. The social awkwardness and tight knit group, and eventual coming into ones own. You should definitely watch the red band trailer before you let your teen under 13 see it with you. Overall a great coming of age film and surprisingly well acted, if a little raunchy. 4.5/5
