I honestly love most of John Carpenter's work, but I've seen this movie three times in my life, and at this point and I can comfortably say I really don't like it. The pacing, plot, and cinematography are far from his best work, the sole female character is treated like a hated sex doll by the supposed protagonists (she is straight up sexually assaulted/ dehumanized), it absolutely oozes toxic heterosexual norms, and the music makes everything feel like a cheap porn. Plus, as a gay guy, I didn't exactly appreciate all the casual/ coded homophobia. It's a fun movie if you can ignore all that, but not in the way it's meant to be. Great gore, though.
