I don’t know what star rating to give this. I’m a fan of the original Mexican version and an even bigger fan of RBD. Had this been a reboot, I wouldn’t have had an issue with it. I enjoyed watching it, but to call it a continuation is a stretch (where is Celina’s child?). Part of what made the first one so popular were the relationships between the main characters and the supporting cast. Without those connections the main characters come across as flat and 2 dimensional. They had nothing to promote their growth as characters and as such there was no character development, at all! I also don’t think eight episodes is nearly enough to properly execute the plot, although other than winning the contest, there was no plot. I’m not going to review the new band because I don’t want to be unfair and make direct comparisons between the two. I’ll just say I wasn’t impressed.
I’d watch a second season because it seems the one plot device that could carry this thing, occurred in the last episode when the one band mate “double crossed” the other members of the band (whom were also her only friends). That’s going to make for an interesting second season IF they don’t mess it up.
I liked it, it just wasn’t a continuation for me.
