I was always a fan of Neil's work in the early days. This album had a bit of a twist, but still produced a few top 40 hits: "Laughter in the Rain" reached #1 pm the Top 40 charts, "The Immigrant" reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #22 on the Top 40, and "That's When The Music Takes Me" reached #7 on the Adult Contemporary and #27 on the Top 40. There were two other songs on the album that became hits for other artists: "Solitaire" was a #17 Top 40 hit for The Carpenters and a #23 Adult Contemporary hit for Andy Williams, whlle "Love Will Keep Us Together" Was a #1 Adult Contemporary AND #1 Top 40 hit for The Captain & Tennille.
Not in the same tone as his earlier works like "Oh Carol" and "Breaking Up is Hard To Do (though he does a very nice slow version of this on on his next album "The Hungry Years"), it shows he grew and matured a bit as an artist and writer, and kept up with the times in the 11 years between his last hit in 1963 until the release of this album.
