Chelsea H – Google

I thought it was just okay. Maybe that’s because I have such high expectations for Peele but this film was far from Get Out and Us. There are a couple good jump scares, a good amount of laughs, a particularly scary flashback scene that got my heart racing and made me feel like I was there and as always, Peele’s unique style and ability to change the rules in film was enjoyable but I would probably never watch this movie again. I just never felt deeply invested in the characters’ story as I have with other Peele films, though they were very likeable. Just okay. Wouldn’t recommend paying to see in theatre.

Can’t understand why the reviews are so low. I thought it was an honest and fresh look into Lucy and Desi’s work relationship and marriage. It’s not a very pretty picture but somehow left me respecting both of them more than before while still feeling the need to cry for them. I’ve always admired Lucille and I think this film did a great job showing us how much pressure she was under, coming from so many different directions in her life while not villainizing Desi but rather by showing us the very flawed man that loved her. Well done! I’m going to go cry now.
