Liberty Justice

Its been years since I first saw this film and it has become obscure and hard to find anymore but it was available on plex and so I had a chance to watch it again. I must say I had forgotten that Connie Nielsen was in this movie and wow, what a beauty. The director repeatedly showed her flawless face and perfect hair with shadows and light framing her to perfection throughout. Kurt Russell was incredibly bulked up and ripped for his part of a brainwashed soldier bred from birth to be a killing machine. He didn't have to say much and played the part in believeable fashion. Im glad to see that the script didn't call for any lovey kissy nonsense between Nielsen and Russells character because he was obviously devoid and incapable of human emotion only showing it after the final battle was won and even then it was only to pick up her kid with one arm. This movie flowed well from scene to scene and didn't show anything unnecessary when depicting Russells character Todd from infancy to manhood training to be the ultimate mercenary. This movie has stuck with me for years as one of my favorite sci fi/war flicks. It was actually better the second time around with cgi and effects that were ahead of its time. The sets were well done and set the tone of the film. Great movie for Kurt Russell fans. Gary Busey and other supporting actors were good too. Five stars.

Steve Zahn seems to never age. He's done quite a few movies dating back for years and in my opinion an underrated actor. He is known mostly for comedic roles, but can do drama as well. This movie has both. In my opinion Zahn carries the movie and makes it what it is...a dark violent comedy. The cast of character actors does a capable job and one can see how this fictitious film (There is no Laroy Texas) could actually happen and even weirder scenarios have taken place in Texas and elsewhere. I give this four stars. For a low budget, the plot moves along nicely wondering what craziness will happen next. Its worth a watch as a murder mystery.

Don't know how much plastic surgery Kate Beckinsale has had, but, she doesn't look like the person I know from her other movies. She is still an attractive woman with a killer body, but, the obvious changes to her face look unnatural in a bad way. Its a shame really. Anyway, Hollywood is stuck on the femme tough girl genre and its getting a little tiresome and ludicrous. A 120 pound skinny female beating up 220 pound men by the dozens is just rediculous. The only female actor with skills and athletic ability to make it somewhat possible was Gina Carrano and Kate Beckinsale ain't Gina Carrano or Cyborg for that matter. The plot is ok with a little different twist so thats a plus. And its amazing how when someone gets shot point blank in the kidneys as her movie husband was, they are still able to have a knock down drag out fight with someone, jump out a window into water and swim away. But, really overall its the same old same old girl empowering b.s. The ending seemed to indicate the possibility of a sequel. Please don't do that.

I have seen this movie twice. The effects are superb and the animation excellent. It has James Camerons expertise throughout. John Woo as director is as good as it gets. Great acting throughout although I couldn't really figure out how Jennifer Connally's character got involved with the bad guys. However, small flaws don't affect the plot. The ending seems to leave an opening for a sequel that apparently won't be made. I was hoping that Alita would have destroyed the mastermind Nova in the end, but, it didn't happen. It would have made it a better movie, but, it was already long at that point. A sequel could give closure where she destroys Nova, but, probably won't happen. Very cool movie otherwise. Lots of action and plot.

I was drafted in 1972 and put on standby but never called up because Republican Nixon put a stop to the mired madness. It was JFK a democrat who got America into the Vietnam war and LBJ another democrat who escalated the nonsense so deeply in politics that it became an unwinable war. There were massacres as the movie depicts although the real soldiers weren't shooting each other and hating each other as much as this movie depicts according to friends who were there. They were following orders and trying to survive. The jungles were treacherous and not only were there poisonous snakes, there were Tigers that would attack as well. The bugs and humidity were horrible to deal with as well. The movie makes its point that it was a stupid war led by stupid leaders and general Westmoreland was the stupidest of them all. The Vietnamese people didn't care about communism or democracy. They just wanted to live their daily lives and make enough food to eat for their families. All the fighting and loss of life didn't change a thing and it is reflected in the fact that many of our household items in America today are made in Vietnam. Sad that our soldiers fought and died for nothing. I had a good friend who was drafted into the marines and went to Nam. He was so screwed up mentally when he returned that he would just sit around in his fatigues and smoke and drink. He couldn't hold a job and didn't want to. Vietnam ruined his life and he was completely broken from being in the Marines over there. One thing not mentioned in the film was the notorious CIA's involvement in illegal assasinations and covert operations. They had a lot to do with messing up the war like they do with everything the touch today more than ever. The president isn't even aware of the stuff they do. They operate with no consequences for their actions, but, that's a subject for another movie. I give the movie 3 stars because its far fetched even though its partially true. The acting is ok and probably Tom Berengers best performance as a psychotic nut job of which there were a few of those in that war. Charlie Sheen was adequate as were the other actors who made up the platoon.

The sad thing is Ive actually known a lot of people like the ones depicted in this movie especially the Mikey character. America is full of trashy low life people who for one reason or the other just would rather spend their money on beer, cigarettes, and pot than get a job, work hard, save and invest money wisely. Instead they become like the hundreds I met in Las Vegas....hustlers who live from day to day and frankly look for the next person to lay. There must be thousands of Mikeys in America from coast to coast and the sad thing is that with the country trillions of dollars in debt, there will be more everyday. This movie gets 2 stars not because the acting is bad or the editing, or the writing. Its because too much time is wasted between dialogue. It drags from scene to scene and its more of a reality show than a film with any meaning. It is exactly the way people are in their ordinary, plain lives...boring. and I certainly could have done without the frontal nudity on the guy for sure. At least have some respect for the audience which may include women most of which DO NOT want to see a guys junk. Another hollywood homosexual writer or director I presume? Go figure. I did not pay to see this film nor would I. Its not worth the popcorn.

5 stars way up on this one. In addition to 2 million children abducted by sex traffickers, lets not forget the 50 million babies killed by abortion. This film shows just how sick and violent human beings can be. There seems to be no end to peoples treatment of children worldwide. Great performances all around and the child actors, especially the beautiful little girl and boy at the center of the plot. Children can easily show emotion with their eyes and facial expressions. I was caught up in the emotion and having children and grandchildren, I can relate from a man's point of view what the father of these two children went through. Thank God this had a happy ending as many of these kidnappings do not. Parents must stay vigilante and watch their kids at all times. And for those women who decide to abort their babies, shame on you for even thinking of doing so. If this movie isn't a wake up call, then you aren't a caring human being.

I gave this movie 2 stars only because of the stunts. Otherwise if you really disect it you will see subliminal messages of the homosexual deviancy that seems to be prevelant in nearly every aspect of woke Hollywood. I have nothing against gay people, but, I do have a problem with the way they have to throw their ideology in my face everytime I watch a movie or commercial or news. This movie shows scene after scene of shirtless men and naked men's butts, however all the women are generously clothed and sexless. Im pretty sure that a movie about bar fights and bloody beatings are not something that a lady (if there are any left) would want to be taken to whether wife or girlfriend on a date. And unless one was a bit odd, a woman or group of women probably isn't going to go by themselves either. So, this movie is written by sexual deviants, directed by sexual deviants and acted by sexual deviants like none other than Brokeback Mountains Jake Gyllanhall (sorry never could spell the guys name). Anyway, naked men and man butts are unnerving if you are a heterosexual male and I got tired of it real fast. And I worked in a bar much like the one depicted and we had bar fights that were just as bad, but, the stuff in this movie is far fetched. If a man is stabbed with a 4-6 inch blade, he will not be walking around or fighting someone with it sticking in his gut and he certainly isn't going to be walking around the next day fighting 5 guys in a parking lot. Hollywood is just getting more and more rediculous and unrealistic in its depiction of violence. Punching people in the face ten times would probably kill a person, but, Hollywood has these actors just shaking it off like nothing happened. Its just nonsense and stupid. And throw in the sexual subliminal messages and you have Patrick Swayze turning over in his grave. Unless you are a guy that drools over manbods, don't waste your time or money on this one.

The only thing good about this movie was Tim Blake Nelsons portrayal of Buster Scruggs. After all the movie was named after his character. Yet, they kill him off in the first 15 minutes or was it ten? The rest of the movie was boring to me with way to much repetitive dialogue. Had they kept Buster Scruggs in the movie throughout, it would have been entertaining and humorous. As it was, there was disappointing death after disappointing death and the humor of Nelson disappeared with the demise of his character. One thing I noticed was just how old some of the well known actors have gotten to be like Tyne Daly and others in the stagecoach scene which by the way was a very boring way to end the film. Anyway, I give it 3 stars simply for the panoramic vista's and scenery. Other than that, the only thing memorable was Tim Blake Nelsons depiction of Buster Scruggs.

First of all, once again a movie presents half the film with no subtitles so basically the audience is left to decipher the Apache language to determine whats being said. Don't know why recent filmmakers have decided not to do this very simple thing which used to be done all the time. Must be some kind of woke b.s., who knows? This movie is a huge disappointment. Its fragmented, all over the place, cutting back and forth in a meaningless way. Don't know what Costner was even trying to accomplish other than the white man infringes on Native Americans and the indians retaliate, then the white men kill innocent indians while the indians kill innocent white settlers. Ho hum. Its a story thats been told a hundred ways and this makes 101. But, unfortunately, its told in a way that leaves you dazed, confused, and bored throughout. Im glad I didn't pay to see this movie. Its a real stinker.
