This is a fantastic movie - mainly because it keeps to the original Shakespeare.
The plot explores themes of revenge, of bitterness, of the nature of justice and its distinction from revenge.
The dialogue is mainly Shakespeare itself, and it’s fantastically well written. Al Pacino is once more shining with his mastery, and it’s difficult to believe he’s not really Shylock. The movie is rated R, mainly because it displays brothels and nudity, so keep that in mind.
