Tonio Loewald

Aeon Flux is a low key masterpiece. It suffers a bit from perhaps having a low ish budget relative to its considerable ambitions. And its deadpan seriousness combined with audaciously outrageous aesthetic and hyper stylized action probably succeeded in alienating almost any audience. It’s a shame that fans of the original TV fragments didn’t appreciate it more. I suspect that every single fan had their own movie version in their head and this movie wasn’t it. Anyway, I think this is a vastly better and more serious SF movie than many better reviewed films. It’s not Bladerunner, but it’s better than Bladerunner 2049 or any of the Dune movies in terms of ambition and moral complexity.

To be fair, I have up after maybe 30 minutes. I’m usually a sucker for historical stories, but this was quite tedious. I ended up looking the fellow up (because I couldn’t imagine someone who had done what he had being as poor a conversationalist as he was being portrayed) and ended up reading a couple of articles about him and decided the movie was telling, badly, what it should have been showing. The acting was fine and the actor had or was given a good resemblance to the man (so far as we have images).
