I ain't normally one for leaving reviews but this one's well deserved. The original Red Alert was one of my favourite PS1 games back in the day and to see the original gang back together and remastering all aspects of it... they've somehow managed to polish it up without losing a single aspect of what made the original so good. You can tell it was as loved by those who worked on it -both then and now- as it is by the fans. New graphics and soundtrack are amazing and being able to switch back and forth at the push of a button is a lovely touch. It's tough to pin down what makes this so good, but push me and I'd say this is how I remember the game being- playing it back in the 90's nobody thought less of it for the pixellated nature of the graphics or the compression on the audio mastering which had both dated a little since- it was just as expected for the time. Playing it today with these upgrades it feels like discovering it all again for the first time, or at worst reconnecting with an old, dear friend- not least because the gameplay holds up perfectly after 25 years.
Only small thing missing are the original cheats- being able to summon nukes on demand or turn ore into people etc on skirmish mode was a big part of the original for me and I'd love to see this implimented on any future updates...
Bottom line though; THANK YOU to the teams behind this, both then and now
