Production value isn't the issue with The Last Of Us Part II since it's practically perfect in all those aspects... Graphics, sound design, gameplay, etc. are nothing to complain about.
What there IS to complain about is the game essentially becoming a different game about halfway through.
Ellie's story for the first 10 hours or so was enjoyable and intense, though when Abby comes in... It feels like you're REALLY supposed to try and sympathize with her even though her character is hypocritical and lightyears away from being as interesting as Ellie.
Abby's story feels forced to try and make the player "understand the other side" though both Ellie and Abby have done despicable acts... The only difference is Abby's friends are uninteresting and poorly written while Ellie's are more human and realistic (though they still aren't quite as interesting as the characters from the first game).
It's almost as if the game switched from Ellie's grounded, intense story to some weird mix of Far Cry and Resident Evil while playing as Abby, which makes it feel like an action/adventure-shooter game, which ruins the gruesome experience I feel I was supposed to have.
It ISN'T a 5 star game or 10/10, but is easily a solid 5.5 or 6/10. If it didn't feel like such a mess and the story was rearranged with some better, well-written characters with actual personalities, it could have easily been bumped to an 8/10.
There it is. Hope this helped someone.
