The Beginning of a Legend! With all due credit to Akira Kurosawa and Mifune Toshiro for Yojinbo, the plot basis for Fistful of Dollars, Sergio Leon showed true genius in selecting young Clint Eastwood and adapting the samurai adventure to the timeless setting of the Mexican border of the 19th century. Ennio Morricone scored the movie perfectly with his haunting thematic music, while Clint Eastwood burst upon the World Stage as America's Last Giant of the screen. How perfectly ironic that it took an Italian director, shooting in Spain to create this American Legend.... This movie has no equal. It influenced me from childhood on, as it did millions of my generation.

EXCELLENT EDUCATIONAL read, for folks seeking to learn the Rites of Passage common to European freemasonry and quasi-masonic "fraternities" as they thought near the end of the Victorian Era. This story is LOADED with initiatory symbols and symbolism. Read this, and have Sir James George Frazer's "The Golden Bouugh" and Mark Karnes' "Secret Ritual and Manhood in Victorian America" on hand for reference. Note how in Coppola's excellent adaptation (Apocalypse Now--and remember the Greek word Apokalypse means REVALATION!) "Colonel Kurz" HAS "The Golden Bough" in his library! You should get ALL the works I've listed here folks.
