I finished the novel in three days. I enjoyed the story and learned a couple of things. The author weaves the tale of fictional survivors of Nazi Germany with threads of Nazi brutality, American goodness, and Israeli resilience. From the first sentence--"Three young people scurried through the back streets of their Munich neighborhood as nightfall was approaching."--I was anxious to see what tribulations the protagonists would encounter.

Dear Matt (may I call you Matt), I’m not usually attracted to mumble-jumble self-help books, but my daughter insisted. What could I say? “Green Lights” was a pleasant surprise, filled with tales of characters and travel, ups and downs, and a bit of advice (mostly good). I appreciate your advice to be involved, not just inspired. I admire you focus on family, faith, and friends. Your suggestion to find value in red lights is spot on. I will use your discussion on values in the classroom. I’m glad I purchased the audio version, with you as the narrator. Now, I do feel like we are acquainted—similar to your new fans after your first hit.
