"The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." H. P. Lovecraft
That quote is central to much of this series. I have watched five of the episodes so far and have loved them. There is a great deal of Lovecraftian mythos woven into these stories and like his writings we rarely have a "neat" ending. We are often left to speculate on what may have followed and that is a negative for many although not for me. We are meant to be left to speculate on what may have followed, how horrible it may yet get, and to simply deal with the unkown to which we have been exposed.
Many of these episodes are a slow boil. Things build over the minutes with us either gaining sympathy, repulsion, or dread for the characters we see. Something may be coming but we do not know what and this series if full of exceptional atmospheric work. All most all seem to be based at different times with none exactly on the present day so far. When the horror comes there is no hesitation to show it in all its color. These are mostly slow boil psychological terrors of otherworldly horrors knocking at our door unseen by most of the world and destroying those who answer the door.
If you want something finished with a pretty bow and ribbon at the ends where you are fed the whole story with no speculation on the viewer's part then this is NOT the series for you. If you enjoy your dread presented as a slow burn with not all questions answered then this is for you.
