Feeling a little disappointed in how over hyped the game was.
The combat system needs a lot of work and there's a very obvious amount of padding. The story will just assume you already know it because none of the answers will come for another 2 years when the next iteration is out. I still recognize it as a triple A game though, when the bosses are good it is very satisfying, but when they're not it's just unfun. The characters and music are great though, so I understand why those with nostalgia are loving it. Worth a buy if you've money to spare, also worth the wait until the next chapter is inevitably released and this one is much cheaper. If you're new to FF7, prepare to be very confused though, as characters appear without any explanation of who they are or what they're doing. Flashbacks are plenty but are literal flashes, you'll be introduced to Sephiroth and Zack but get no exposition to explain them. Ending feels very unsatisfying because after your goal is met, the game continues with a slog of extra bosses because in the original it was just another chapter. Problem is your goal is vaguely explained once you reach the final bosses just to give you an exciting final moment. A new ending is fine, but thematically it was misplaced and included the worst boss experience in the game before the true final boss. The moment of freedom once you've finished the midgar segment from the original will have to wait for the next game.
