Fantastic attention to detail. It makes you feel like the prospect of settling Mars is within the realm of possibility. Terraforming adds a degree of unrealistic play, since the results of 500 sols of gameplay reflect terraforming that would occur over a thousand years in real life.

I bought this book at the 1988 book fair at my grade school when it was first published. I credit this book with sparking a lifelong fascination with the greatest tragedy to ever happen at sea.
