As wonderful as her Romance novels are, Georgette Heyer's forays into mystery/suspense/thriller mash-up genre are masterful studies of psychological manipulation, sleight of hand on par with Agatha Christie. Envious Casca is one of her best. Despite its setting, it's enduringly modern, and with Gen Z's new attention to dark traits and narcissism, an enjoyable masterclass.
