The movie is a tale told many grandmother to their grandchildren of their passing sisters , aunts, and mothers . I grew up knowing my grandmother passed as white and was paid under the table . My great grand mother put my passing grandmother through school selling chickens and veggies. My grandmother was white during the day and of color in the evenings coming home to her black husband and children. But her sister chose to pass completely and move from the south to Pittsburgh, CA never to be seen or heard of ever again. This story was riveting and proved to to open wounds about my own existence. Though i don’t pass i still am forced to live in the “in between”, where my Bourgeois family taught me the ways of a proper young lady. But to me it only emulated white society, Where I am not black enough for the blacks and two black for the whites. Poor Claire she managed to provoke feelings just the same as a white woman in society where we envy her privilege but treat her with great distain because of that same privilege. Is it just me or did her friend push her off the balcony that’s my question?
