After the episode that entails the departure of the Empress, my angst reached its zenith; this is not Star Trek nor is it about discovery, unless the ship's name is meant to be ironic---the only thing they are discovering is the life and times of Michael Burnham. It should be renamed "The Adventures of Michael Burnham"; at the very least it would be true to the plots and alleviate my cynicism. Burnham, born human educated as a Vulcan, seems to have fostered the worst traits of both races; arrogant, selfish, and headstrong at every turn, her inability to learn from past mistakes keeps those around her in constant peril. I wonder if the actor that plays the Empress learned that the show would not be about the cast but only about how their characters interacted with Burnham---with this knowledge she then decided on a graceful exit.
