Watching “The Last Duel” was a disturbing experience. There should definitely be tighter reins on what is acceptable for an R-rated movie. This story revolves around a rape, and all of the reviews and trailers did not indicate that. I do not understand why this was not rated NC-17; there’s an orgy scene playing in the background during a dialogue, along with the two very disturbing rape reenactments and multiple sex scenes. We need to distinguish between “some nudity” and reenactments. I think this story deserves to be told, but it is sad that they feel it necessary to tell in such a graphic way. Everything in this movie could stand on its own without these scenes being depicted as they are. I’m so thankful my 17 year old decided not to join us and my mother-in-law as well. There is no fair warning for these scenes; this movie takes “some nudity” and “sexual assault” to another level. The information provided with the rating does not distinguish between sexual content and sexual scenes. I feel it is not right to pay for an R-rated movie and have to sit through scenes which should be rated X. I truly believe those scenes should not be allowed.
