This movie is somewhat capable of creating suspense but you sometimes wind up wondering why you were worried. Very good acting, but very ordinary direction. The scary bits seem clumsy and are only even a little bit scary because of the startling, rather insane difference between the volume of the spooky sound effects and the regular speech. I'm constantly fumbling for the remote so I don't deafen myself. Good writing doesn't need loud spook sounds. The detective character totally breaks the immersion and suspense by being amusing and sarcastic. He's only doing as directed and instructed and he's doing it well but it just doesn't fit. Overall I found it a bit boring but the last half hour gets pretty good, the sound balance is less terrible and the scares less cheap. It's like they changed directors and writers for the last 30 minutes.
Fun Easter egg at 1:11:45, a tribute to the creators who also made Saw.
