A loose narrative around a cheap gore effects reel does not make a movie. Poorly acted, poorly written, and poorly editted, this has to be one of the most over hyped horror movies in years. Trying to pass off the excuse of it being an homage to 80's slasher flicks, this is just a boring gore filled hack job of the director just trying to gross out or disturb the audience watching it. The main characters are there only to deliver terrible dialogue and be butchered by the dime a dozen killer clown template.
And the main villain is just another over powered slasher killer who turns up to conveniently thwart our victims escape or just pull out a hand gun when thing's don't go his way (BTW, future slasher flick writers, NEVER GIVE YOUR KILLER A GUN, it cheapens their character and makes it unbalanced for the audience since they could've just pulled it out at any time and shortened the movies run time but 70 minutes). The killer clown trope was over done and played out by the time came out in 2016 and this one brings nothing new to the table. And the gore featured in this comes across so cheap, much of it being either too waxy or rubbery, certainly nothing spectacular compared to the works of 80's legends like Tom Savini or John Carl Beakler.
The amount of hype this film got for being a gory movie on Netflix is just unrewarded, it does nothing new or interesting and in all honesty is down right boring. If you want a real modern tense slasher flick with great gore, go watch You're Next or Us instead. Terrifier is tedious and unoriginal, not worth anyone's time.
