(Please keep in mind I have seen most of season 2, and about half of season 3, and I have not read the books)
Never have I been more disappointed in a show. My mom was watching the show, so I joined her in season 2. The scenery was lovely, although it was a bit cliche. Mel and Jack's relationship was okay, but it was slowly getting worse as the show progressed.
The whole thing about the pot dealers was completely stupid. They didn't need that in the show. And the drama with "Calvin" or whatever his name was really just made me want to slam my head into the wall.
When season 3 started, the show was horrible. It was so predictable I could tell what Mel was going to do and say. Jack had no substance, I felt like I was watching someone who's whole purpose was to be this rugged, "outdoorsy" guy.
And the plot with him, Charmaine, and Mel is stupid. She's pregnant with twins, he impregnated her, and then he started dating Mel. Jack and Charmaine are over. He's dating Mel. That's the storyline.
It just goes back and forth back and forth back and forth, when it's so obvious he's not going to stay with Charmaine. She has a fiance.
Oh, and about Todd. Why is he so mad she has a fiance? You're dating someone, and you'll probably get married to her, Jack. Charmaine and Todd are in love, but he's a jealous crybaby that wants what he wants, and if he doesn't get it he will whine and throw a hissy fit :`(
All of Mel's trauma is understandable, but the show presents it in a way where it's laughable almost, and the show barely elaborates on it except for a few "heart-breaking" scenes, where she cries about it and uses it as an excuse for everything.
The show is trashy, the writing is bad, and the characters are one-dimensional.
I could get into so much more, but for the sake of this being short, I won't.
