Like a lot of the other reviewers, I was a teenager in the 80s and while I remember the terribly shocking advertising campaigns, I doubt I understood them properly. The lack of tolerance and understanding is astonishing to me now but presumably at the time people thought they were doing the right thing, though clearly they were not.
This show is so powerful. It's very clear the friends all loved each other and looked out for each other as a group but away from the group their individual stories were so well told. Colin simply broke my heart - Callum Scott Howells played him beautifully. And Omari Douglas as Roscoe was brilliant! Keeley Hawes as Ritchie's mum - she made me so cross but she was outstanding. Well, the whole cast were outstanding!
Beautiful, funny, sad, poignant, emotional, thought-provoking, heartbreaking - a full-on rollercoaster of emotions, this is the best thing I've seen on television in a very long time.
Any awards this show wins are so well deserved - may there be many!
