SPOILER ALERT Ok, is it just me people, or did we watch the same movie? Everyone is talking about Encanto, and I watched it in the theater AND Disney+ to see the hype about it. The trailer showed it would be a adventurous, well, a funny but a adventurous movie to find Mirabel’s purpose. I like those kind of movies which is why I went to the movie. Uh, it was anything BUT THAT Its basically about this girl who feels left out because she doesnt have a gift, she finds out about this guy Bruno, her uncle, and goes into his room only to find out that she’s in his vision and tries to sort it out but her family members burst into a song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”. Then Mirabel sees that Bruno isnt as bad but the candle is dying and it can be helped with a frikin HUG with her sister Isabela. Like, is this the Hispanic version of Frozen 2? She goes, eventually hugs her sister (after a fight and another song “What Else Can I Do?”) and then she gets into a fight with Abuela (Spanish for grandma) Casita (Spanish for house) destroys itself, the candle goes out, and Mirabel runs away. Did I already say this is like the Hispanic version of Frozen 2? Mirabel is like Elsa! Abuela comes, apologizes and tells her whole life story and then sings “Dos Orengutas” or something like that about losing her husband and raising 3 kids (Pepa her aunt, Julieta her mom, and Bruno) and Mirabel comes back and somewhere Bruno appears. The family is SO QUICK to forgive Bruno, when they sang a song about “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, the whole village rebuilds Casita (and why is Abuela so chill about the candle burning out, and if the candle burned out, how is Casita still magic?) then they take a picture with Mirabel in it and BOOM, ENDING CREDITS. I watched Encanto in theaters, and didn’t get the plot. Watched it in Disney+ and STILL didn’t understand. I know it’s a children’s movie and all but I really just didn’t like the movie, it’s overrated. But the reason I rated it 2 stars, not 1, is because of the STUNNING animation. Like, it is so awesome, so eye-catching as much as I hated Encanto, I do have to give credit. Awesome animation, and beautiful representation for choosing Hispanic characters and they’re culture. I can’t put 1 star for that. And some songs I didn’t like, but others were the BEST. Even though they appear at random times for no reason, I liked “Waiting On A Miracle”, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “Surface Pressure”. Whoever sang that gave me another star! Overall, it’s overrated, VERY overrated, but watch it still, the animation and songs will be one of the best you had ever saw. Improvements: Don’t make the plot so rushed. For god sakes, you don’t have to squeeze it all in a hour and a half. Just make it longer if you want, nobody cares about the movie length.
