Before I get into it, let me confess that I didn't know this was a Tyler Perry movie, and had I known I would've guessed just what the storyline is. I've seen so many TP movies that I feel over the years his writing has become so predictable and cliché.
I actually watched clips of the movie on YouTube and took interest in the scenes I couldn't find but I was not in a rush to see the whole movie. In fact, I felt that just by watching the clips on YouTube, I'd seen the whole thing. So, as I was tossing and turning in bed last night, anxious about waking up for work (I hate waking up) I thought, "Let me watch Nobody's Fool". I did and oh boy 🙄.
Firstly, the storyline was borderline boring. It's expected and thus makes it less exciting. The successful, uptight, well groomed black woman whose standards of men are so unrealistically high has run its course. We get it! Let's move on.
Secondly, Danica, the lead fits this narrative so well for me. Her sister Tanya is the highlight of the movie for me. Not only is she funny and witty but she also make you almost want to believe that she's not just playing a scripted role - that she in fact mirrors realities of most siblings considered the so-called black sheep of the family. But I like how Whoopi, who plays their mom, doesn't compare the two sisters against each other. In fact, I admire that she lets both of them be.
Thirdly, The Charlie storyline AND his re-emergence were completely unnecessary. The plot was already developed and there was just no need for him. Oh! And the awkward sex scene, yeah I saw that coming too. In fact, the scene at the date with Danica reminded me a lot of the scene between Taraji and Morris in 'Think like a man' and they did it waaaaay better! Even Micheal Ealy played the character of not being THE type better. A lot of things didn't click about Frank for me. I don't know what but something was definitely missing. I kept on waiting for the 🥰😍🤩😋 moments and nothing!
Finally, and most importantly for me, I get that Danica did not see Frank as her ideal type but Frank forgiving her didn't rub off on me so well because Danica was judgmental, rude, narssistic and petty. Frank should not have taken her back. When someone belittles you the way she did, there's no coming back. That's emotional and mental abuse. People like that, no matter how much they profess their love for you never change! You need to pay attention to things people say about you when they think you're not listening or can't hear them.
