It's fun and entertaining to watch for the first few episodes, potentially inspiring even, but soon it became draggy and pointless as I realised the serious lack of diversity in the chefs and judges. There was no person of colour representing Africa, only a few women which were given minimum screen time, the only East Asian team were eliminated early on, and soon you're watching a white man lamenting on how it's a struggle to prove himself in Japanese cuisine. I understand it is a personal struggle and I do admire him, but it was really distasteful with the lack of representation going on.
In the end, all you're left with are 4 white men competing for the final spot, which led me to support Darren as he was the only one that would represent Asian cuisine. I would have had no problem with that if the initial sample of participants were more balanced, perhaps with better scouting like a previous reviewer had said.
I believe that there is a huge potential in the show if it were to include participants, judges, and cuisines from more regions and countries. Overall, I did enjoy watching it as just pure entertainment.
