Good movie overall. Great acting—the music was…different but intriguing. Not the kind of movie I could watch again and again, but definitely worth the it the first time around. As a Christian, I appreciated the movie capturing how often those claiming to be of the faith dangerously misinterpret scripture and turn what is meant to be a relationship with Jesus into a religion. As someone else said, Christ already paid the sacrifice for us, it’s nothing we can do. Yet, we keep trying to find ways. The movie portrays something extreme, but that’s what keeps the interest and storyline moving. The backstory to young Anna is tragic and something too many can sadly identify with. I appreciate that the director didn’t glorify the details, or do flashbacks (for those that have a history of sexual trauma). Sometimes an emotional scene with the retelling gives as much weight and punch.

I LOVED this series until they turned it into a sort of love triangle soap opera. It’s very cliche, but I was still enjoying it until the storyline just became ridiculous, particularly with Hope’s ridiculous obsession with the town not knowing about her and Vernon’s status in season 2. Ruined it for me and won’t watch anymore. Such a shame. Why do all shows have to ruin a decent series? Otherwise I was really hooked by the show up until about the 2nd or 3rd show of season 2.

I loved this movie! Enola is lovable and witty, and all the characters are very well done. If you’re a history buff and know anything about how women were viewed in history, and what they’re daily life was like, it’s important to suspend reality and just enjoy the movie. The majority of the movie was spot on in that aspect, but Enola’s ability to move about freely unescorted was completely unrealistic. So just switch off the brain and enjoy, otherwise you’ll just torture yourself. ;-)

The movie itself was well acted, and I made it about 3/4 of the way through the movie. It is GRAPHIC. I am writing this reviews years after its release, but I don’t feel the description is written well for anyone suffering from PTSD from a sexual assault, of assault of any kind. It’s not that it was glorified or done lightly, but that it was so realistic. It’s time for Hollywood to consider some kind of rating for those suffering with PTSD (this is coming from someone who does not). All that aside, I will say, it was a psychological look at what parents are willing to go through for their child that has been vilely harmed, but let’s be real, these people will never heal mentally or emotionally. Acting, 5 stars.
