By the trailers, I expected this movie to be very funny, especially with the seemingly solid cast, and decided to watch it with a friend. Instead of being creative and humorous, like many Happy Madison productions, it was disgusting, uncomfortable, and truly painful to watch. Aside from the jokes that failed to land, the bad acting, and the painfully predictable ending, this movie was incredibly offensive in its portrayal of sexual assault (on two separate occasions) as “humorous” scenes. Let me clarify, that I am NOT someone who is easily offended or overly sensitive, whatsoever. But something about this was incredibly unsettling, especially on a platform that a significant number of children and young adults are using for hours on end right now. Using abuse as a humor tactic is tasteless, and ruined what was already a mediocre film at best. I hoped this movie would make for a great girls night, with a plot line that seemed original and entertaining at first glance; instead it left us feeling disgusted, annoyed, and unsettled, and drove me to write this, my only review I’ve ever written, because it left that bad of a taste in my mouth. We expected much better.
