Honestly: I cried with EVERY line. I had to put it down every couple of minutes. I have never been so happy reading, hearing or seeing anything in my short 70 years of experience which has been much more considerable than most mortals. Sure, it can't compare with the most beautiful breasts, or childrens faces or natural environment I;ve beheld....different planet(of experience) of course. Tthe Return of Hyman Kaplan should also be enjoyed.
I don't expect you to agree with me....but I would not consider my life complete without having lived the time with these books. I have sent copies to others....no replies. But, if you love life....you should pick this up and try to imagine BEING THERE. The reader must LISTEN to the SOUND of the words spoken by the class of students. It was sound of the accents of the words by the various cultures/countries...the words are hollow....unless one hears the sound as the words are spoken...exchanged between the worlds of man(and women) in the book. If you can hear the words as they would have been spoken in that melting pot….the closer you hear the sounds, the more I cried. I was a health professional. I loved the knowledge I experienced every time I learned the natural world. My GPA in these science classes(often A) would be short of the feelings/love I had while reading Leo Rosten's wonderful imaging's of Hyman Kaplan's world. PS: please excuse my misspellings and inappropriate word choices. RPD R.Ph.
