Halo CE is okay? Personally, I didn't like it very much. I love the rest of the series so so so much, but this one is kind of eh for me. The levels get boring and it's so easy to get lost in them. Normally, i'm okay with that, but here, it doesn't feel right.
My main reasoning in disliking this game is because it feels like it has no substance. You just sort of move from one level to the other, but why? It never really feels explained all that much. People say that this game has a great story, which i'm not really picking up on, even after playing this game multiple times. I get that it's supposed to be mysterious, but there's nothing more than just that; mystery. Sure, there's a story, but it's not great. There's also little to no character development I feel. You're just.. thrown into every kind of situation, with the same basic formula of being a spartan, and having an AI. I'm glad that 343 picked up on this in the remake, which definitely made the game more interesting, with the guilty spark scenes you can find throughout the maps.
Honestly, i'm so tired of people complaining about the level designs that 343 came up with for Halo 4 and 5, when in Halo CE, over half of the game is backtracking through these huge levels. And in the levels that you aren't backtracking in, they're just big and repetitive in design, which again, leads to getting lost. I get that this game had it's limits, but think about it, Halo 2 came out a few years later, and not much had changed, but it got even better. Halo CE could have used more work, and therefore, even though it started a legendary series, isn't so legendary itself.
I'm just tired of seeing Halo fans who think that this is the best Halo game, when in reality, it's not. I think it's time for the "Halo fans" that hate what 343 makes for some reason to give their games a chance, because they do have substance, and a story. 5 is a little more understandable, but it's not bad. Most of the time, I see people complain about it even though they haven't played it themselves. I think that says something about what kind of "fans" we're dealing with here.
