While the premise of the film is good, the execution is poor. Frankly the use of an invasion of space aliens is unneeded to the plot line. It could have been any one of many existential threats that exist on earth already. The real point of the story, that being the choice between resistance and compliance by an individual, is muddled as a result. Frankly the story could have been set in any occupied country (think France in WWII) where a significant portion of the population is more than happy to get on with their lives vs a small but highly motivated resistance. While you watch the movie the parallels become very clear. Again while that inspiration is clear, the execution is muddied and confusing.
